Review: Sephora Perfection Primer

Hello lovelies,
I purchased this primer while in Dallas last November and thought its about time I review this! The primer is only $18 USD for 1oz which is almost too good to be true! When it first comes out of the tube, the primer has an almost pinky color to it and it also has a little bit of shimmer to it, but once its applied to the skin, the color and shimmer disappear.

I really liked this primer when I was using it with my Estee Lauder double wear, because I apply that foundation with a brush.  It made my skin glow almost and the make-up lasted all day. However, now that I've switched to NARS sheer glow (which I apply with my fingers), I can no longer use this primer underneath. It starts to ball up on my face due to the friction of my fingers and my foundation looks very streaky. I think I'll save this primer for the winter months when I'm back to using my double wear. Overall, I think its a really good primer for the price, it just doesn't agree with all types of foundations.

FOTD: Bare-faced

Hello lovelies,
I wanted to share a quick FOTD before I run out to do some errands. Its pretty hot today and I'm a sweaty girl so I skipped the foundation. I've had pretty clear skin lately (fingers crossed it stays this way!) so I was able to go bare faced. I brightened up a little by using a colored liner on my bottom lash line.

MAC Margin blush

Ardell black eyeliner on upper lash line
Sephora liner in Nano on lower lash line
Voluminous Million Lashes mascara

Victorias Secret lip gloss (not sure what the color is, it rubbed off!)

The solution for dry, brittle nails!

Suffer from dry nails that chip and break the moment they get to that perfect length? Do you have nasty gnarly cuticles that make any nail polish look bad on your tips? Well then lovelies, Lush's Lemony Flutter is the product for you!
Lemony flutter is a very thick cuticle cream thats SUPER moisturizing. It has a lemony scent which isn't the most pleasant and it doesn't fade with time either. So if you're very sensitive to scents, this isn't the product for you. However, it does an amazing job and improving the condition of your cuticles and your nails as well. I have nails that grow very quickly but they always chip or split in the middle, however, since I've started using this on my nails every night, I've noticed a huge improvement! My nails no longer chip and the cuticles are no longer gnarly. It took about a week of daily use to start seeing improvement but you will definitely see one.
The price is $14.95USD for 1.5oz but this small tub will last for months, if not a year! You only need a very small amount for both hands, I've had mine for about 8 months and it's only half done.
This product definitely deserves a 5/5!

Review: Wet n Wild Palette in Blue Had me at Hello

Hello lovelies,
After reading all the raves about the WNW palettes on so many blogs, I decided to head over to Walgreens and see what all the hype was about. Luckily, they had a few in stock and I snagged the one with the most eye-popping colors, Blue Had me at Hello.
All of the colors are really pigmented and blend almost effortlessly. They are all really soft as well so you have to use a light hand or your brush will pick up too much and you'll end up with fallout under your eyes.
 L-R: 2 browbones, 2 eyelid, 2 crease, 2 definer shades (no flash)
L-R: same order as above (with flash)
For $5.99 USD for the large 8 color palette, you can't beat the price, especially considering the quality of these shadows. I think I'll be heading over to Walgreens again in the near future to buy the rest of the collection.

Review: Victorias Secret Lipstick in Hot Spot

Hello lovelies,
Just wanted to do a quick review about my absolute FAVE hot pink lipstick! I've had such a hard time finding a shade that complements my skin tone AND makes my teeth look whiter. Some pink lipsticks can leave your teeth looking yellow, even if they aren't! Well, I'm happy to say that I've found just that with the VS Perfect Lipstick in Hot Spot.

This lipstick is very pigmented and one swipe deposits a nice opaque wash of colour, even on my naturally very pigmented lips.  I always get a ton of compliments on it whenever I wear it out. Its definitely a night out kind of product, I don't think I could pull this colour off in the daytime.
Has anyone else tried any Victorias Secret lipsticks?

Review: Ole Henriksen Ultimate Lift Eye Gel

Hello lovelies,
On a recent trip to Sephora, I picked up a sample of this gel because I'm always on the hunt for that miracle eye cream that will turn back the hands of time. So far, I haven't had any luck in that department. Most eye creams I've tried have done little to help the tired-looking eyes most medical students suffer from, but that won't stop me from trying every eye cream I can get my hands on! Determination is the key to success!
According to the Sephora website this eye gel is "an anti-aging treatment that reduces puffiness, sagging and wrinkles in the eye area"
I have been using this gel every morning and night for the past week and have noticed some slight improvement in my under-eye puffiness, especially in the morning. This gel tingles when its first applied so those with sensitive eyes might want to be careful. It can also be sticky if you use too much, so apply sparingly, especially in the morning if you plan to apply makeup over it.
It usually takes 4-6 weeks to see improvements with any anti-aging product so I'm going to continue using this and let everyone know if any miracles occur.
This gel retails for $38 for 1oz which is a pretty good deal since a jar will last a few months with twice daily application.

Nail Art Attack

Hello lovelies,
Here are some nail art looks I've done over the past year. One of my guilty pleasures is watching reality tv and doing my nails! Hope you enjoy the looks! (Sorry the pics aren't the best quality, a lot of them were taken on my old iPhone)

Review: Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Hello lovelies,
Coconut oil has been used for centuries in India as a natural moisturizer for the hair. Its a solid at room temp and liquefies at warmer temperatures. Growing up, I remember my parents sticking my sister and I in the tub and rubbing the oil through our hair and making us sleep with it in. I used to hate it at the time, but i guess I have to thank them for the thick, long hair I have now.
I haven't used coconut oil in my hair for a VERY long time, probably not since I was a child, but I came across some articles about it a little while ago and found myself ordering a bottle online.
For the past few months, I have been applying this coconut oil to my hair once a week to see if it really does make a difference. And did it make my hair healthier? Drumroll please.......YES!
I use a small scoop of this oil in my dry hair and distribute it evenly from roots to tips and then cover my hair with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Then I rinse it off in the shower and follow with shampoo and conditioner.
Over the past few months, I've noticed that my hair has gotten shinier and the split ends have all but disappeared! I also don't have any flaking on my scalp which was an occasional problem for me. I would definitely recommend this age old beauty secret to anyone looking to improve the condition of their hair or just looking to try something new! And if you can't find coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil are also very good hair treatments.

Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Light

Hello lovelies,
This primer is awesome!!! Its a water-based foundation primer so it doesn't contain silicone which is perfect for those with sensitive skin. It feels like a light moisturizer when applied to the skin and allows make-up to glide on effortlessly without streaking.
It also contains vitamin c and peptides which promote collagen production in the skin. When I use this primer under my foundation, my face does not get oily throughout the day and I find that the makeup looks like it was airbrushed on.
This product retails at Sephora for $36USD for a 1oz size but you only need a small pea sized drop to cover your whole face and neck so the tube will last a long time.
Has anyone else tried this primer? Do you love it or hate it?

Review: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster

Hello lovelies,
On my never-ending search for the best anti-aging products, I stumbled upon this awesome serum! Actually, my best friend Janice gave me sample to try because she's had such good results while using it and thought I would love it too. I love my friends!
This serum contains 10% vitamin C which is a potent anti-oxidant and regular use of the serum will result in a brighter complexion with a noticeable difference in the fading of previous acne scars and fine lines.
I apply this serum to my just washed face every morning and spread it evenly with my finger. I then follow it with my Olay Complete moisturizer that has an SPF of 15. A little goes a long way with this serum and you only need a very thin coat. The sample size I received was 0.25oz and its lasted me for 4 weeks with every day use and there is still about 1/4 left in the bottle. The full size bottle contains 1oz. and sells for $48 USD so I'm assuming it will last a few months at least, which is a pretty good value.
Over the past four weeks, with regular use, I've noticed that my complexion appears brighter and previous acne scarring I had (it was very mild, however) has faded away. I also haven't had any breakouts while using this product.
It has a bit of an orange-y smell to it so if you're sensitive to smells, this may not suit you. However, I really love this serum and will definitely re-purchase once this sample runs out.

Rview: NARS Sheer Glow in Barcelona

Hello lovelies,
I have been on the search for a good summer foundation that isn't too heavy and won't melt off my face in this blistering Chicago heat (I'm a sweaty gal). I've heard good things about NARS Sheer Glow so I headed over to my local Sephora to score a sample. I was matched to the color Barcelona and it blends seamlessly into my skin! Its a light to medium coverage foundation but you can build it up to be a solid medium, its definitely not full coverage though.

I love the dewy finish to this foundation and how easily its applied with my fingertips. Apparently it contains micro particles of color and when you apply it with your fingers, those particles break apart and allow the make-up to blend effortlessly. I like to go over it with my NYX duo fiber brush after blending with my fingers to give it an even smoother finish. I usually wear this foundation with Smashbox's Prime Light underneath (review on that to come soon!) and I get solid wear for about 8 hours before I notice some fading. However, when I wore this make-up without the primer underneath, my face was an oil slick in about 4 hours. So I would definitely recommend a primer underneath or using something like MAC's blot powder on top to control shine throughout the day.
Overall, I give Sheer Glow an 9/10. It loses marks because it doesn't come with a pump dispenser so its a little messy to get out of the bottle.
Does anyone else use Sheer Glow? How do you find it?

Small LUSH haul & review

Hello lovelies,
I recently discovered the LUSH store on Michigan Ave and picked up a couple of goodies, the Tiny Hands moisturizer and the Brazen Honey fresh face mask.

The tiny hands moisturizer is a solid hand cream shaped like a little hand. Its super moisturizing and gets softer with body heat as you rub it between your hands. It smells a little nutty but the smell disappears within a minute. I absolutely love this product and will re-purchase when I run out. I've had it for about two weeks now and will most likely get a months worth of use from it. I like to keep it next to my bed and use it on my hands before I go to sleep. I always wake up with soft hands and my nails and cuticles are in much better shape as well. It retails for $5.95 USD and is well worth it!

The Brazen Honey mask is from LUSH's fresh face mask collection. These are masks that you can only buy in the store (not available online) because they have to stay refrigerated. They have an expiration date of around 2 weeks from when you purchase them but always be sure to check on the bottom of the pot because I once bought one that expired a week later. The description on the mask says:
"Stimulating Ayurvedic herbs and fresh fruit juices are blended together with softening honey and ground almonds to polish skin thats in serious need of a boost."
I personally love the way this mask smells (and so does my cat) but I know some people are not fans. It smells like a mix of fennel, ginger and cardamom and feels so good on your skin. Also, the ground almond pieces are a great way to exfoliate as you wash the mask off. My only complaint about this mask is that the following day after I use it, I always have a couple of whiteheads that seem to pop up. Not sure if its because the mask has brought up dirt from deep within my pores, or my skin just doesn't like the mask. Either way, this is something I will purchase again in the future when I'm looking to "spice" up my skin care routine.

Review: L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

Hello lovelies,
A friend of mine came to visit over the weekend and was raving about this mascara. She said it was comparable to Lancome's Hypnose in terms of length and volume. I was intrigued and decided to try it for myself, especially because Walgreens had it on sale for $6. I really wanted to see how it compared to my HG mascara, Lash Blast.

The mascara claims to separate lashes and build volume without clumping because of its spiky little wand which is quite flexible and not stiff at all. I think the flexibility allows it to grab all of your lashes with each sweep and coat them with the perfect amount of product.
I'm lucky that I have naturally long, full lashes, but found that this mascara actually made my lashes look LESS full than normal. It does a fantastic job of separating them and giving them great length, but the volume just isn't there. This mascara also holds a curl very well but after about 7 hours, I noticed some flaking under my eyes. It also has a noticeable smell which disappeared after a few minutes.
Overall, I don't think this mascara is better than Lash Blast because I prefer volume over length when it comes to my lashes, but I did love the fact that it held the curl all day long.
I give this mascara a 7.5/10
Has anyone else tried Million Lashes? What are your thoughts lovelies?
